This announcement was updated July 18, 2025, to reflect the progression of construction phases.
Construction on the began Nov. 18 and is slated to run through summer 2025. During this time, there will be periods when sections of street parking will be blocked off on 9th and 10th Avenues along the north end of Central Campus and detours along the 16th Street corridor between 11th and 8th Avenues will be in place.
July 21, 2025: Tree Removal Traffic Impacts
Beginning on Monday, July 21, 2025, the 16th Street Enhancement Project will move into a phase of construction involving the removal of 16 trees along the èßätv edge of 16th Street.
Please see below for an announcement from the City of Greeley regarding this phase of the project.
Starting next week, 16 trees will be removed along 16th Street along the èßätv edge as part of a larger effort to improve safety and accessibility in the area. This work is necessary to allow for sidewalk widening and infrastructure upgrades that support safer travel for pedestrians and cyclists — especially important in such a high-traffic corridor between campus and downtown.
While this change may feel difficult, it is part of a thoughtfully planned project that balances safety, accessibility and long-term aesthetics. The good news is that the area will not remain bare. In Spring 2026, the site will be replanted with a mix of new trees, ornamental grasses and colorful perennials. There will be a total of 43 trees planted along the 16th Street corridor, compared to the 23 trees we are removing along the roadway. These enhancements are designed not only to restore the green space but to enrich it — creating a welcoming, walkable environment that reflects the beauty and energy of the èßätv community. Additionally, the 16 removed trees along the èßätv side will be repurposed into mulch and returned to èßätv for use in campus garden beds and landscaped areas, supporting sustainability and ongoing campus care.
The City of Greeley appreciates your understanding and patience as we complete this important work. These improvements will help ensure that everyone — students, faculty, and staff as well as residents and visitors — can enjoy a safer, more connected experience for years to come.

The 16th Street Enhancement Project will create wider, even sidewalks and improve traffic safety along the 16th St. corridor. The new design will incorporate better landscaping and lighting and create more parking in the area.
According to the city, this first phase of construction is scheduled for the fall and winter as it requires underground work to the city’s utility lines. That work must be completed while the nearby irrigation ditch is dry and before it's used for spring operations. The city expects the majority of the aboveground work to roadways and parking will take place during summer break. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.
