Donations Open for Inaugural Uplift and Thrift Event

Join the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center in supporting èßätv students and the wider Greeley community

The Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC) is collecting donations for the inaugural Uplift & Thrift event, which will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11, from noon to 4 p.m. in the University Center Grand Ballrooms. The event will be an opportunity for students and community members to affordably buy gently loved clothes and other items that they may need for the upcoming school year. Donations can be dropped off at the MGCC (928 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO) until Monday, Sept. 8, any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

The Uplift & Thrift event will also be an opportunity for Black businesses, student organizations and student business owners/entrepreneurs to sell products and services to the èßätv community. To meet the needs of èßätv students, all items sold at the event will cost between $1-$10. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the programming of èßätv’s cultural and resource centers, as well as MGCC’s Hygiene Bag Project, an initiative geared towards distributing hygiene bags to people experiencing homelessness in Greeley.

For donations requiring pick-up, please contact James Hodges at james.hodges@unco.edu to schedule a time. Here is a non-exhaustive list of items that can be donated for either project:

Uplift & Thrift:

  • Graphic tees, shirts, jeans, pants, slacks, shoes, hats, coats, jackets, gloves, èßätv gear, decor, appliances and items useful to students that could fit in a residence hall room.

Hygiene Bag Project:

  • Deodorant, soap, hand sanitizer, new socks and underwear, small, non-perishable food items, lotion, feminine wipes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, mouthwash and chapstick.
